Yes, of course! I am moving to Brazil to work for my company for a couple of years. My spouse/partner would also like to work during this period.
What are the chances of him/her finding a job and receiving a work visa?
Usually it is very difficult for a spouse/partner to get a work permit, and thereby qualified employment. Usually the language barrier is a problem during the first year. Even within the Swedish subsidiaries based in Brazil it could be difficult to get a job because they tend to employ domestic work force with knowledge of the Brazilian market. Swedish citizens are only hired for some very specific key positions. They are usually sent out from Sweden, have long experience within the organization and/or have specialist competence.
In fact, even receiving a visa granting your partner residential status is not likely unless you are married. However, that can be overcome if you start the application process early and state in the application that you principally under Swedish law are married due to that you have lived together for a long time. (See also question 5 on section "Other").
The best option for the partner/spouse is to seek employment within a multinational company or organization in Sweden and then apply for a temporary work assignment in Brazil. Another option for partners/spouses could be voluntary work, which is performed without pay, but is by many considered rewarding due to the valuable contribution that the worker is giving to the organization that he or she works for.
If you decide to go job hunting, you might find the services that the Chamber provides useful, such as contact information to Swedish subsidiary companies and different kinds of networking facilities, once you are in the country. For more information, please contact brazil@swedcham.com.br.
